People make politics: The Pirate Party on why it's crowdsourcing its manifesto

By Dave Neal

THE PIRATE PARTY UK is steadily increasing its position in the political spectrum, aided perhaps by the actions and behaviour of the big three parties.

Taking this further is the organisation's keen eye and large ear for the views of the electorate. In the run up to the General Election, The Pirate Party is again asking the population to steer its policies.

This could put the party at an advantage in this Post-Snowden, more informed world, and cause upset at the polls.

We spoke to the party's latest prospect, Sheffield Central candidate Andy Halsall, about the crowdsourcery and its impact on the party and its politics. (Read more on theinquirer.net)

Why UK politicians could learn a lot from the Pirate party

With just 22 days to go until the election starts, like many social media addicts I am wondering just how much more Official Political Tweeting I can take.

Politics with a small p is, of course, on fire. My social media feeds sizzle with the anger of people from across the globe: over the racism of cops in Ferguson, US, over the destruction of antiquities by Isis, over Jihadi John, over Netanyahu’s 26 standing ovations and, above all, over the alleged criminal behaviour of bankers.

Yet the average mainstream politician runs a Twitter feed sublimely indifferent to the issues that excite the world. “Glad to be on the doorstep in Acme-shire, where we had a good discussion about local nursery provision,” is typical MP’s tweet. It is often accompanied by a photograph of the said meeting, in which nobody at all looks glad, nor indeed involved in any kind of discussion. (Read Article on The Guardian.com...)

Pirate Party Policy Process #Policy2015

We are running our policy process for 2015 now!

We've been proud to run on British politics' first crowd sourced manifesto. And of course it's time to update and upgrade.  This process will run until the 21st of March online and offline and will allow the party to make sure our positions are up to date, and up to scratch for the General Election. To get it right, we need your help:

NHS - Calling for a minor change in Policy..

When it comes to policy on the NHS, I am proud to be a member of the Pirate Party; we have been clear about our commitment to the NHS, and clear what we think could be done to make it better.
I should be clear; the party has said that it wants to bring outsourced services back into the NHS:

"We all trust the NHS with our lives. In return for that trust, the NHS should ensure that it is using the funds apportioned to it as effectively as possible, even when an effective service isn't the cheapest option."

"All the skills to deliver healthcare from start to finish, from cleaning to surgery and from transport to transplants, should be available within the NHS."

Introducing our new Community site!

Ed Geraghty's picture

Community LogoAs part of our ongoing work to totally revamp our websites, I'm pleased to announce the launch of https://community.pirateparty.org.uk!

You can use it to grill candidates asking for your vote, discuss policy, swap resources and information, and to start to get involved in branches.

We hope that this can become a hub for our members and supporters to interact with each other and so build a true online Pirate Community from the base up.

I welcome any feedback you may have on it; you can either leave your feedback directly on there, in the comments below or you can drop me an email at e.geraghty@pirateparty.org.uk
