Pimpin' out your social media account - AKA promoting PPUK in EU elections

Stephen Ogden's picture

Just two days to go until the EU elections and the excitement is mounting. You want to do something to show all your family and friends that you're a die-hard Pirate Party evangelist but need a little help. How can you show your dedication to this important cause? Well, I have some answers...

Firstly, in true Pirate style, give us all your money! If not all, then any sum, no matter how small will help. If we don't reach our £5,000 target we won't get any of the money!

Secondly you can show your support for us via social media by clicking on the twitter/facebook/tumblr support options on our ThunderClap campaign. This will let us, in true Pirate fashion (over using this yet? no? good!), hijack your account to send a single message of support. All our supporters will send the same (or similar) message at the same time creating a masive wave... a wave upon which we can ride to success!

Thirdly (yes, there's more!) you can add a Vote Pirate twibbon to your twitter/facebook account. If you don't want to do this via the twibbon website you can pimp out your own avatars using the attached transparent image and your favoured open source image editor.

What else can you do? We've made a plethora of campaign posters over the past few weeks, and these are all available (with source material). You can take these, mix, re-mix, use and re-use to your heart's content. You can also take to the twitterverse to proclaim your love of the Party and encourage others to vote for us. The hashtags we're using are: #VotePirate #EP2014 and for the pozible campaign #FundPirate

I won’t vote for any MP who supports Mandelson’s Digital Economy Bill

I’ve just started a new facebook group: I won’t vote for any MP who supports Mandelson’s Digital Economy Bill.

The Digital Economy Bill plans to disconnect people from the internet if they’ve merely been accused of filesharing, or if anyone sharing their connection has been so accused. This is a breach of our human rights, and must be opposed.

Pirate Party now biggest on Facebook

Further to my previous article, "Pirate Party surpasses Labour Party on Facebook", the Pirate Party is now the largest UK political party in terms of the size of its Facebook group.

This is because of two developments: we're continuing to grow, having reached 7000 members on 19th of September, and the largest BNP group has diappeared (there are various BNP groups on Facebook; the current largest has 3715 members).

Pirate Party surpasses Labour Party on Facebook

It appears the Pirate Party is more popular than the Labour Party, at least on Facebook. Our group there -- at the time of writing -- has 6364 supporters, whereas Labour's has only 6356. And the Pirate Party has only been in existance for a month.

The only UK political party to have more supporters than PPUK on Facebook is the BNP (currently 7383 supporters). This is likely to change, with PPUK overtaking the BNP, not least because there are more filesharers in Britain than fascists.

Our Facebook group now has over 4000 members

The Pirate Party's Facebook group now has over 4000 members -- as I write the total is 4050.

Incidently the biggest political parties on Facebook are the BNP (6639 members) and the Labour Party (6265 members). Pirate Party UK has only been in existance for less than a month, and already we are more than half-way to surpassing them!

If you haven't already joined Pirate Party UK's facebook group, do so now (you don't need to be a party member to join). And tell all your friends to.
