Publications forced to join state-approved regulator

Tuesday, 10 January, 2017 - 18:45

First the Snoopers Charter sought to kill privacy, then the DE Bill plans to remove our freedom to choose which publications we want to expose ourselves to, but now the Conservatives are going to the source with the activation of section 40 of the Crime and Courts Act 2013.

Section 40 was in response to the Leveson Inquiry, which recommended legal remedies should be more easily available to the public.

In principle, this is a good idea, however the Act is terribly worded.

New Beginnings

Hello fellow Pirates

I hope you all had Merry Christmas and a happy new year - thankfully it seems this Pirate didn't it on to Santa's naughty list this time around and I wasn't left with just coal.

The Alt-Left have learnt nothing

David Elston's picture

While we see the Democrats in America failing to come to terms with what cost them the 2016 election. That calling your electorate deplorable is not a way to convince them you have the better argument, we’re now seeing the left wing recycle candidates at home, much like the USA did with Hilary Clinton.

Caroline Lucas was not so long ago, after standing down, re-stood and was re-elected as Leader of the Green Party in England and Wales and now Pippa Bartolli has been elected Green Party Wales’ Deputy Leader, having already served as Leader.

This particularly grinds my gears as there are many of us that generally speaking end up more on the left wing than the right in our policy making and the Greens territorialism tends to mean they claim the left wing argument rather a lot. There are so many people not just on the left spectrum but those who have been mislead to join the greens that have so much to offer to politics.

BREAKING NEWS - Second Pirate Party Representative in the UK

Wednesday, 14 December, 2016 - 21:00

Pirate Party UK now hosts two councillors. Kev Young, an Independent councillor on the Parton Parish council in Cumbria has joined the Pirate Party UK and was successful in being immediately co-opted back on to the council after standing down.

The Pirate Party UK has a policy that on any occasion when someone who is an independent or from another party crosses the floor they should immediately stand down and seek to regain their seat, ensuring they still have a suitable mandate to represent the people.

We are happy to welcome Kev Young to our crew.

Bear with us

David Elston's picture

Popular Youtuber Bearing recently had their channel shut down, after setting all their videos to private. He has over 300,000 subscribers.

What’s all the fuss about? This bear:

Image for reporting only. Cartoon Network hold copyright.

The avatar bears (excuse the pun) a striking resemblance and is practically the same looking bear as the one that features in Total Drama Island, the Cartoon Network show. The show ran from 8th July 2007 until 29th November 2008, with 28 episodes and no further production continued. The show only aired in Canada, the USA and the UK – not Australia where Bearing is resident. It’s last air date was in the UK, 6th May 2009.

Furthermore the Bear is not one of the primary cast and does not feature in any of the show’s advertisement.

Boundary Review - Pirate Party Respond (WLS - SW)

David Elston's picture

Have you hear of the Parliamentary Constituency changes? The Boundary Commission as of the 5th of December closed responses on their initial plans. We believe in openness and transparency at all levels of government so here is my response for the Bridgend and Vale of Glamorgan regions in South Wales.

In this report I draw attention to many different aspects of why the proposed changes need a second look. Some of the areas covered are:

  • Commuting
  • Population Size
  • House Prices
  • Voting Records
  • Supply Lines
  • Existing Relationships
  • Local Groups

Vale of Glamorgan / Bridgend response can be viewed here.

Pirate Party Councillor Stands with Standing Rock

David Elston's picture

Councillor David A Elston, the first Pirate to hold any seat in any level of government in the UK shows solidarity with the hundreds of primarily young Native Americans protesting against the potential contamination of water from the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL).

David A Elston, Spokesperson for Wales said:

"We have seen first hand in Wales when national policy overrules what locals are asking for it can cause devastating results. In Wales we remember the deliberate flooding of the Tryweryn Valley and still today in the UK we see places such as Lancashire being opened up to fracking despite the opposition of the local council.

Those in Standing Rock are no different to ourselves. In the simplest of terms, they have a local policy that is being ignored by their national government.

We, too, often forget that environmental issues such as these still have an impact on people and our planet in the long term. We should be looking to new, sustainable technologies and should not rely on fossil fuels; digging up and burning the past, to fuel the present at the cost of our future must stop."

#NoLove4USGov - An extradition too far

Tuesday, 15 November, 2016 - 13:15

Amber Rudd has signed Lauri Love's extradition order despite huge public uproar, opposition both inside and outside her own party, inside and outside of government and a previous home secretary, now Prime Minister blocking an extradition with almost exactly the same conditions. Lauri is unlikely to meet justice in America, in his case the most likely outcome is jail without a trial.
