Pirate Party to stand Euro Candidates in North West Region

Friday, 28 March, 2014 - 13:30

There's More to Life than Nick v Nigel

The Pirate Party will be standing in the upcoming May 22nd European Parliament elections in the North West region.

First on the Pirate Party North West list is Maria Aretoulaki. She runs her own IT consultancy as well as being a dubstep DJ and promoter. Born in Greece, Dr Aretoulaki speaks 4 languages and has lived in 3 different EU countries.

You Can Make A Difference in May

As you will be aware, this year is a big one for the party - we have the European Parliamentary elections coming up this May. The European parliament is vital to many of the issues we care about - from mass surveillance, copyright reform, international cooperation, to transparent trade agreements.

We will be running in these elections - but we need your help.

We need more people to join the excellent candidates who have already put themselves forward, so we can field the best team possible.

I would like to make another call-out to you, our members, but of course time is getting short!

If you, or anyone you know, have any interest in standing on behalf of the party in the upcoming EU Parliamentary election in May this year, please email me at nominations@pirateparty.org.uk as soon as possible.  If you aren't quite sure, if you want more information, or even if you just have questions, do get in touch with me and I'll do everything I can to help.

There are of course many other ways for members like you to help at busy times like this;  from stuffing envelopes and pounding the pavements to responding to press requests, writing blog posts, talking with voters or even being an election agent for candidates.

We have our "CEEP" - the Common EU Electoral Programme as voted on by you, but that is not the end of the story. We will need to hear what you have and want to bring to the Euros.  We need our candidates to stand on their own platform, one they believe in and one they can be confident on.

Branches, Candidates and the Next Steps.

The Party is coming out of a fairly hectic period, we have a new treasurer, a new press officer, many new board members and we have been working hard to deal with the transitions as well as all the correspondence and ideas that have come in from members and non-members alike. So, for the last month or so much of our focus has been internal and it is about time we turned back to the work that actually gets our ideas out to people in the UK.

So, over the next few days we will be going over out what the campaigns team has and will be working on in the next few months.  If you have any suggestions or want to get involved in any way, let us know.

Leaders Update - There's never been a better time to go Pirate

Loz Kaye's picture

We've had quite a few new members join the party since my last update. So welcome all, and thanks to all of you who continue to be part of this party and those of ytou who have volunteered to help. We've been through quite a big media focus recently and it's time to expand our work on the ground to cope with the interest in Pirate politics. So that means a new and bigger team.

We have a new board and it's time to expand the team further, we'll need new people to help with press, new candidates, new treasury team, new people to support my work as Leader, help with ongoing policy, and new members for the board.

Loz Kaye confirmed as PPC for Manchester Central
